Vile creatures swept over the walls, faces contorted with infernal hatred. The stink of rotting flesh washed over Andramanikos with every beat of their bat-like wings. Clawed feet grabbed at the legionaries, plucking them from the battlements and sending them plummeting to the ground. At the foot of the wall an army of hellish creatures scrabbled at the rock. Some gained purchase of the smooth stone somehow, and walked up the ashlar in hideous, nightmare-slow fashion.
All along the the wall, legionaries grappled with the spawn of the Abyss. A thing with the face of a mule and a scorpion's tail vaulted the parapet.
